The race has been specially designed by the SHPS PE department for the lower primary students! We want to provide every student the opportunity to participate in a sport competition, appreciating the social and emotional bonds they build with their friends as they compete together. Students will also learn to be resilient, as they go through successes and failures in the games and practices.
Each race comprises of skills that have been taught during the PE classes, which are in line with the new syllabus. The skills are tailored to make it challenging and fun! Students are to complete their skills at the stations in the fastest time possible in a relay style. When the last student has completed his/her skills, he/she needs to run to the Finishing Hoop and hold up a specific item to signal the completion of the race.
Each lane will have a teacher judge who will ensure that students complete each skill task correctly before moving on. The lane judge will also have a stop watch to ensure that the time taken to complete the race is recorded. A chief judge will determine which classes complete the race in order, and checks with the lane judges according to the time recorded on the stopwatch. In the event of a tie/dispute, our video judge will check the recorded footage and provide the chief judge the final decision on the standings of the race. Such orders are in place to educate our students on the importance of fair play and sportsmanship, even at a young age.
The classes have been categorised into 3 groups: Antioch, Bethel and Canaan. Each group comprise of three classes, and the winner of each group will receive a trophy to commemorate their victory. We even have a photo-booth to allow parents to capture their children with their awards!
